Hey! Just a little update. Trying to worry less about making every single sketch a photoreal rendering, and instead just have fun drawing!

Dyst|01 & 2

More work on environments! Wanted to do something structural this time.

Just another quick sketch for tonight. Really trying to keep the layer numbers down. Apart from 2 adjustment layers (hue/sat and levels) I got this speedy in under 10 layers. Its sad that that's what I'm most happy about :/

So I think I have to attribute these sketches to Christopher Nolan. Inception really did blow me away, regardless of hype. I could pretty much go on for a while about it, but I'll just say, go see it! And get hold of the soundtrack too.
With these sketches, I realised something about learning that seems obvious when I say it, but as much as thinking and studying something is import for learning...the doing is just as if not more important for learning. Sometimes not thinking, just playing will teach you things you didn't even consider.
Hope you like em!

Hi! I was lucky enough to do a sketchbook section for 2DArtist Magazine. Some great work in this issue, Serge Birault for one!

So its back to work. Heres a speedpaint. Slowly getting back into the enviros. And honestly, rip it to bits if you see something that should be there, or that would make it better. Cheers

]LightandEnviro Study

Hey. So I've been pretty slack with finishing sketches recently. Spent more time relearning environments and playing Red Dead :D
But heres the kind of thing I've been working on. A fast way to generate shots and lighting setups. Still needs alot of working out. Heres the same shot lit in three different ways, trying to convey a different mood for each. Hope you like em, I'll try get some finished next time.

Long time no update! Got into a slump and I'm trying to get out of it.

Heres some character warm-ups I'm gonna try keep doing every morning. I dont spend too long on them. These are loosly based on 'ancient/barbarian' themes.

Trying to learn and improve the ol' environments. Been really inspired by the incredible MassEffect2 which was so epic is blew up my xbox and red-ringed it. So I'm playing Dantes Inferno in the mean time.
The main enviro guy on mass effect was Mikko K whos work blows me away. So I wanted to try 'decode' his approach. Hope you like!

'Nother quick speedy. Got to get back to wipEout Fury. That game is like a dream come true!

Saturday, 16 January 2010

Just another speedpaint for today. Need to get better with enviro's and characters. I think the approach is soo important and that I need to really study it alot more.

Long time no update! Had a major break over christmas which was great. But now its back to the tablet. Heres my entry for Mike Lim's BeautifulGrim event.
This image is based on the Jacobs Ladder quote: "If you're frightened of dying, and you're holding on, you'll see devils tearing your life away. If you've made your peace, then the devils are really angels, freeing you from the Earth."
